Mens Inter Counties Stage 1 Report 2010

Report: Inter Counties Stage I Premier SOUTH.
Location: BA Club, Middlesex.
Date: 13th/14th November 2010.

Match 1: Cambridgeshire v Buckinghamshire.

A strong team from Cambridgeshire assembled at the Concorde Club, near Heathrow in Middlesex. With Harry available for the Saturday, having to dash back to complete lab experiments, Cambridgeshire’s prospects for the weekend looked promising.

Despite Rossin making an incredibly slow start and Galen looking like he was still in the coffee house, Cambs secured a comfortable win over Buckinghamshire. Harry secured a notable ‘chopping’ of Tom Phipps (former England U19 no 1) and McGinn battled hard to win a long, gruelling match 3-2 at 3rd string.

Harry Leitch bt Tom Phipps 3-0
Galen le Chemiant lst to tom Power 1-3
Dan McGinn bt Matt Marshall 3-2
Rossin bt Alex Hartley 3-1
Steffan Morgan bt Luke Power 3-1
A great start, beating the men from Buckinghamshire 4-1(18-7)

Match 2: Cambridgeshire v Middlesex.

After a minimal buffet in the back room of the squash courts, Cambridgeshire were fired up to take out the potentially strongest team of the weekend, Middlesex. The many cheese and egg sandwiches had obviously worked wonders as Steffan and Rossin both secured solid 3-1 wins over their opponents, setting up the team well.

Unfortunately Galen (who brought his own personal sandwiches … note taken!), lost again 1-3 against quite a grumpy opponent! Despite this set back, the result was never in doubt with McGinn, yet again grinding out a 3-2 victory and Harry looking very impressive, beating Mick biggs comfortably in 3. Two wins out of two, unheard of!

Harry Leitch beat Mick Biggs 3-0
Galen Le Chemiant lost to Alex Couch 1-3
Dan McGinn bt Gurgaj Khalon 3-2
Rossin bt Sam Levin 3-2
Steffan Morgan bt Jamie Walters 3-1
Cambs beat Middlesex 4-1(18-7)

Match 3: Cambridgeshire v Norfolk.

So with 36 points in the bag, things looked incredibly good for the ‘tractor-boys’. After another ‘tame’ night out in Uxbridge, things aren’t like they used to be? the team, minus Harry were ready to finish the job against arch-rivals Norfolk.

Rossin went on first and yet agin started incredibly slowly. This was in part due to having to drive approximately 100 miles the previous evening to find the damn curry house due to McGinns incompetent use of a sat nav ap!, note to self never allow a student to navigate, especially with a fail-safe electronic device!, bring back the paper maps!

Anyway Rossin eventually woke up, winning 3-1. Ahmed called in to replace Harry, put in a solid performance to win comfortably at 5 and yet again Galen lost 1-3.

Galen le Chemiant lost to Jamie Goodrich 1-3
Dan McGinn bt Marcus Cowie 3-0
Rossin bt Andy Trim 3-1
Steffan Morgan bt Sam Hales 3-1
Ahmed El-referre bt Steve Mooney 3-0
So Cambs beat Norfolk 4-1(18-5).

A great result, rounding up a very successful weekend, finishing with 56 points out of 60. This means that ourselves and Middlesex go through to the Division 1 promotional weekend in March, potentially playing Leicestershire and Cheshire. This promises to be a royal battle, with the prize of a place in the Premier division on offer.

Well done lads, Rossin.
