This weekend the GU19s County team, Elsje van Es, Nayera el-Refee, Hayley Green, Kate Hendry and Emily Philpott visited New Malden Squash Club for the first fixture in this season’s Harris Cup Championship.
The girls, who have never played together as a team before, were very pleased with their 3rd place. Surrey (1st) and Kent (2nd) played strong teams and the Cambs girls were only able to snatch a few games in the first two rounds with Nayera performing particularly well against Surrey’s Francesca Ritchie who is ranked #20 in England.
As the day progressed the girls got into their stride and finished the fixture on a high winning 4 out of 5 of the Oxon v Cambs matches.
All the girls enjoyed the day and manager, April van Es, said “the team is still very young with two out of the five usually playing at U17s level and another two who will still qualify to play next year in the GU19s. The girls are very keen to train together more regularly and I’m sure that we can improve on our results today.”
Thanks go to the team’s sponsor Redmayne Arnold and Harris.
