Training partners Sammy Chambers (Crown) and Robert Dadds (Comberton) took the honours at this weekends Cambridgeshire Junior Championships, Sponsored by Tucker-Gardner and Dunlop.
National No.1 at U17, Chambers was hot favourite to retain his U19 title but was made to work hard for it, first by Dadds in the Semi-Final and then by Daniel McGinn (Peterboro) in the final. However, Chambers proved too strong for both an added yet another title to his already record haul.
The Boys U17 final proved to be the match of the weekend with Dadds overcoming McGinn in 5 brutal sets lasting well over one hour.
The large crowd at the newly refurbished Hunts County courts were treated to some enthralling squash played with great sportsmanship by both players. The result was in doubt until the last few rallies with Dadds winning his first county title and gaining revenge for his defeat to McGinn in last year’s U15 final. The players left the court to a standing ovation.
The loss in 2 finals was particularly tough on McGinn who played superbly over the weekend displaying the form which had won him a recent Harrow Challenger event.
In the Boys U15 event Tom Symonns (Comberton) added to last years U13 title when he overcame Top seed Toby Reeves (St Ivo)
In the girls events there were new champions in all age groups with Nayera El Refee (St Ivo) Wining the U17event and Hayley Green (Fenland) in the Under 15’s.
With Junior Squash continuing to boom in Cambridgeshire thanks to the excellent Schools and Clubs Junior programmes in place at Comberton; Crown; St Ivo ; Swavesey and Hunts County we saw the next Generation of stars emerging with Champions Liam Barnard ( Peterboro) ; Gregory Goodwin (Hunts County) and Natalie Caulkett (St Ivo) in the u13 and u11 categories.
