Ladies O50 Stage 2

Stage 2 of the O50 Inter Counties was held at Colets Health Club, Surrey. Cambs only had one match but a daunting one playing host, Surrey.

Opposition was tough. Nicky Hastings and Rebecca Moore lost 0-3 against Maggie North and Julia Ledger. Sarah Howlett had a fantastic game against Tammy Bennett going to 5 games but losing 9-6 in the 5th. Despite the losses the team played well and came 3rd overall in the group. Surrey were winners of the group and look likely to win the championship.

Inter-counties O-45 Stage 2 Promotion weekend

First up against Cambs in this Stage 2 promotion weekend were Durham and Cleveland who boasted the best over 45 player in the country in Yawar Abbass. Of the 4 teams competing, only one would be promoted to the top rung of the over-45s, the Premier Division. However, Cambs fielding their first choice starting 5 with all of the squad of 10 being available, were on good form. Andy D'alessandro and Duncan Alexander got the team off to a flier, both recording good wins. John Hawkins then went on and came from 2 down to win 3-2.

Cambs SRA Boys Under 15 Grand Prix, Comberton SC, 22 January 2012

We had fifteen competitors, nine of whom were from the host club, and the afternoon saw some good competitive squash, all of it played in a very sporting spirit. The event began with three box leagues of five running in parallel, and this was followed by round robin play-offs among the three fifth-placed, fourth-placed, etc. players from each box league. It was a pity that the court time allocated for the tournament wasn’t sufficient, which meant that the play-offs had to be abbreviated.

The morning session was for players of 13 and under and was won by Harry Hennessy of Abbotsley with Jace Anderson of Ramsey in second position. Third was Adam Peer of Comberton and fourth Toby Darroch of Abbotsley.
